A Smashing Success in Toronto: Onix Pickleball Canada Recaps an Unforgettable Day for a Cause
2025 Oct 11th
On Saturday, September 27th, the One Health Clubs in Mississauga became the stage for an inspiring celebration of sport and community. Onix Pickleball Canada joined forces with Melanoma Canada for the Smash Out Skin Cancer Celebrity Pickleball Tournament, presented by Eucerin, and the results were unforgettable.
The energy in the club was electric. The sound of paddles striking balls blended with laughter and cheers as players and spectators rallied together in support of melanoma and skin cancer awareness. As proud sponsors, we were thrilled to witness the pickleball community unite with such joy and purpose.
Celebrity Guests Bring the Excitement
The event was made even more memorable by celebrity guests Zibby Allen and Ben Hollingsworth. They didn’t just attend—they fully embraced the spirit of the day, competing on court with energy and good humor. The highlight of the tournament was the Celebrity Game, where they faced the top fundraising teams, the Pickleball VIRGINS (Not!) and the Pickle Sisters. As Ben and Zibby admitted, “They were totally schooled!” — a lighthearted moment that perfectly captured the friendly competitiveness of the event.
Division Champions
The tournament crowned champions across all divisions:
-
Beginner: Dinking Divas
-
Intermediate: Two Dinks
-
Advanced: Markham Warriors
A Community Making a Difference
Beyond the excitement, the generosity of participants, volunteers, sponsors, and donors was remarkable. The event raised over $90,000 for the melanoma and skin cancer community. Falyn Katz, CEO of Melanoma Canada, reflected on the impact:
“With every point played, every dollar raised, and every conversation sparked about early detection, we’re one step closer to a world with zero melanoma and skin cancer related deaths.”
Highlights and Messages
The tournament featured inspiring messages and videos from the celebrity guests, including Zibby Allen, Ian Ziering, and Ben Hollingsworth, all emphasizing their love for pickleball and their support for this important cause.
At Onix, we believe in the power of sport to create real change. Every serve, every rally, and every donation brings the community closer to ending melanoma.
Looking Ahead: Montreal
The fun doesn’t stop in Toronto. The Smash Out Skin Cancer tournament series continues in Montreal on Saturday, October 25th at the Royal Westcourt. Participants will have the opportunity to play alongside Ian Ziering and Andrew Keegan. Whether you are a seasoned player or trying pickleball for the first time, your participation makes a difference.
